Can’t Live Without ‘Em Kitchen Tools

February 17, 2015

A friend of mine is preparing for a move to Japan later this year and has been working through which home items she needs to take and which items still need to be purchased. This conversation got me thinking about the items around my house that are indispensible to my husband and I and the way we live our lives.

Today I’m sharing a few of my favorite kitchen items. These are the items that I would hate to ever be without in the kitchen.

1. Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer

My KitchenAid stand mixer is one of my most favorite things… ever! It makes perfect mashed potatoes, bread, and cake batters every time. It makes holiday meal prep a breeze. Plus, it’s a huge time saver in the kitchen. I received my red mixer as a Christmas gift in 2008, and I simply cannot imagine life without it. I’m quite sure I would not be as confident in the kitchen without it.

2. A Flat Stainless Steel Whisk

I admit to owning several whisks, but there’s only one I reach for time and time again: a stainless steel flat whisk. When the Pioneer Woman recommended this whisk a few years back, I knew I had to have one. It hasn’t let me down.

3. Onion Chopper

I registered for this onion chopper when we were married 6 years ago, and I’ve not put it down since! It’s perfect for chopping all varieties of vegetables, including onions. This little tool makes quick work of chopping loads of vegetables at once. I’ve used it for recipes that require loads of chopping (think canning relish that requires finely diced veggies) and to keep my eyes from watering while chopping onions. Plus, the price can’t be beat!

4. Giada De Laurentiis Mezzaluna Knife

While this product is sadly no longer available, I couldn’t not include it on this list. I purchased it at Target for less than $20 with a coupon not expecting much. Boy, was I wrong! This little knife is easy to use and sharp enough to power thorough any chopping needs I have. It was also made for a woman’s hand, unlike most knives, which makes it easy for me to work with. If this ever becomes available again, I will buy several as gifts for the women in my life!

5. Crockpot

I’ve saved the best for last. My crockpot is my absolute, No. 1 favorite kitchen tool. I have the Crock-Pot Programmable Cook and Carry Oval Slow Cooker, and I use it at least once a week. I love this model because it comes with a timer (essential), a lockable lid (useful), and a keep warm setting (thank you!) that automatically turns on when the cooking time is complete. It’s the perfect size and has not disappointed me once!

That’s my top 5 kitchen helpers. I’ll share another area of our home sometime soon that makes my life better. What are your favorite kitchen items?
