Fall Party Ideas

September 10, 2013

It’s no surprise that we enjoy entertaining in our blue house, and lately I’ve been thinking a lot about hosting a fall-themed party. I thought it might be fun to share with you some of my fall-inspired party plans.

The Menu

The star of any party is usually the food, and I hope to have a lot of fun with a fall-themed menu. Whenever we have a large party, we always do it potluck style asking our guests to bring smaller menu items while we provide the main portions of the meal.

I’d love to pull together a chili bar, where we’d provide my Rainy Day Chili — along with a vegetarian option — while asking guests to bring items needed to set up the bar: sour cream, crackers, corn chips, cheese etc.

In addition to bringing chili bar items, I’ll ask guests to bring side dishes, so that I can focus on dessert! Up first on my dessert menu, I’m planning to make Monster Munch recently featured on eighteen25. I think all add Reese’s Pieces to mine, though. This is one of those recipes that would be so fun to customize to your specific tastes.

The  dessert I’m most excited about, though, is a red velvet bundt cake. Oh yes. I’ve made it before using this recipe, and it is so good. It’s the perfect red velvet cake recipe, and trust me, I’ve tried plenty. Instead of using the ganache as directed, I think it would be fun to let the red show through. Instead, I would drizzle black and white candy melts over the cake and tuck in a few black spider rings.

Decorations and Activities

I’m normally not one to do much outdoor decorating for the fall season. However, now that we’re in a new neighborhood (rumored to have many trick or treaters), it seems appropriate to decorate outside. I’m thinking pumpkins. Lots of pumpkins! If we carve any, I’m looking forward to trying a trick seen on Pinterest.

Sitting around a fire pit seems mandatory for a fall party. We have a few chairs, but I think it would be fun to supplement chairs with hay bales covered in old quilts. Charming, right?
