Navy and Orange Tablescape Celebrates the End of Summer

August 28, 2013

To me, the end of the month of August represents the end of summer. While the temperatures may not reflect the seasonal shift (in my head) for awhile, my home sure can. So, I decided to celebrate the unofficial end of summer with a navy and orange tablescape.

This is a super simple and inexpensive tablescape. The gorgous tablecloth was purchased at a yard sale for …waitforit… a quarter! The only other items I purchased were the cupcakes, oranges and the large seahorse and turtle figurines, which I think I spent $4 for each.

In the middle of the table, I fashioned a cake plate out of a milk glass vase and a Goodwill plate. This isn’t something I would do if we were actually eating at this table, because it was pretty unstable. I love the extra height it gives to the plate of cupcakes, though. If we were planning to eat here, the cupcake plate could be placed directly on the table for easy access.

I shopped my home for most of the items, including the wine glasses turned cupcake holders. You may remember them from my happy birthday tablescape I posted back in May. The little turtle you see above usually lives in the front guest bedroom.

I adore these plates and use them any chance I get. I purchased them on a deep clearance at Dillard’s a couple of years ago. The napkins were purchased at World Market years ago. The placemats were purchased at Target. They were actually a part of their Christmas collection, but I love using them year around. For the life of me, I cannot remember where I purchased the napkin rings.

You’ll notice that my seahorse and turtle figurines gained a little height with the help of an upside down bowl from my everyday china collection. The white color matches, and I like to think they’re on little pedestals.

Halfway through taking photos of this tablescape, Winter decided she needed to help.

She’s pretty much the cutest thing ever.

Happy unofficial end to summer everyone! You better believe I’ll be digging my pumpkins out of storage as soon as the calendar rolls over to September.
