Happy Birthday Tablescape

It’s birthday month around here! Travis and I both have birthdays this month (so does Roxy), so we’re celebrating with a birthday-themed tablescape. A tablescape may sound like an odd way to celebrate one’s birth, but to me, it sounds like a good time and is actually one of my preferred celebrating methods.

Travis and I were born exactly three weeks apart in the same hospital back in May of 1986. How weird is that?

There’s a home boutique store in Chattanooga near where we used to live, and they had these same exact birthday plates for $40 for a set of four. I popped in often to glance at them, but I never could bring myself to actually purchase them. I’m so glad I didn’t, because I was able to get the 8 plates you see in this tablescape for $10 at a yard sale last year. I love when that happens!

The wine glasses I’ve tipped over and used as individual cupcake holders were also lucky yard sale finds. I got a set of 12 wine glasses for a quarter. I think they’re better suited for decorating than drinking, so I’m looking forward to finding more inventive ways to use them.

The birthday plates read (moving clockwise from top left): make a wish, birthday gifts, celebrate, happy birthday!

The cupcakes were store bought. I made Travis a birthday cake earlier this month, so the cupcakes are a treat to myself. Because no one likes to clean up a messy kitchen from making their own birthday cupcakes. (No, today is not actually my birthday.)

My Mom likes to tell the story of how she made it through the entire school year (she’s a teacher) the year she was pregnant with me. She says that she handed out final report cards on Friday and told all the children to have a nice summer. I was born on the following Monday, Memorial Day. She also calls me every year in September on the anniversary of the day she found out she was pregnant with me. I love how she remembers things like that.

If you have (or have already had) a birthday this month, I hope it is extra special this year. I always considered myself fortunate to have a birthday in such a wonderful month. Happy birthday all you May babies!

  1. Hi there, Katie! I’m visiting from Susan’s Tablescape Thursday, and it’s nice to meet you!

Happy Birthday to you, Travis, and little Roxy! 🙂 My husband and I were born 4 days apart in June. I went to high school with his brother, but never met my husband until about 20 years after that. His family lived on the block over from my favorite aunt who I visited often as a kid, but I never ran into him. Isn’t it funny how fate works?

You’ve set a fine birthday table for yourself! I’m so glad you were able to find the plates you had admired for so long at such a great price!!! See…fate at work again!!!

I wish you much happiness during your birthday month! Have fun!

    • Hi Alycia! I agree, it’s crazy how things work out sometimes. But, like you I’m sure, I’m so very grateful for the mysterious ways fate works in our lives. Thank you for the birthday wishes!

  2. Happy Birthday to all of you!! Those plates are amazing and what a lucky bargain find. Love your idea of turning over the wine glasses to use as cupcake holders – so clever!!

  3. Hi Katie,
I guess, this is my first time to visit you and I know this is not my last.

Belated happy birthday young girl! You could be my daughter. Cool to see a young woman as my soon age, blogging like me §:)

Those dinner plates are adorable and a WANT to have.

Enjoy your w/end with your lovelies.

    Greetings from D´BoX,
    /CC girl
